Survey Reveals Limited Personal Use of Vaping in Pakistan, but Growing Social Awareness

Islamabad: A recent survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan has revealed that while the personal use of electronic cigarettes or vaping devices remains low among Pakistanis, social awareness and indirect exposure to such products are on the rise. The study found that 60% of those familiar with vaping reported no personal or social connection to it, while 37% acknowledged either using these devices themselves or knowing someone who does.

According to Gilani Research Foundation, the survey titled “Public Awareness and Attitudes Toward Vaping and Chewing Tobacco” involved a nationally representative sample of 1,153 adult Pakistanis. Conducted via telephonic surveys from September 12 to September 23, 2025, the study reported that only 9% of respondents personally use e-cigarettes or vaping devices, while 28% stated that a close friend or relative uses them. The survey’s error margin was estimated at ± 2-3 percent at the 95% confidence level.

The findings underscore a growing visibility of e-cigarette use within social circles in Pakistan, despite the low personal usage rates. This trend highlights the potential need for proactive public health communication and regulatory measures as new nicotine products continue to gain traction in the country.
