SRINAGAR, Following the revocation of Article 370 by the Modi-led Indian government in August 2019, human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have seen a marked rise, according to political experts and analysts.
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, these analysts, through a series of interviews and statements made in Srinagar, highlighted that over 800 Kashmiris, encompassing young boys and women, have been martyred since the unilateral decisions of the Modi government in 2019. The figures further indicate that more than 2,380 individuals have been injured, and upwards of 21,000 have been arrested in IIOJK during this period.
The experts stressed that the actions of the Modi-led BJP regime are in clear violation of international laws and standards. There are numerous independent institutions that have recorded significant rights breaches by Indian troops within the territory. They stated that these ongoing infractions in IIOJK seem to be a strategy to undermine the Kashmiris’ determination for freedom.
Furthermore, the analysts emphasized that the escalation in human rights abuses in IIOJK has direct ties to the long-standing unresolved Kashmir dispute. They remarked on India’s apparent disregard for international appeals to investigate the rights violations taking place in the occupied region.
In concluding remarks, the political experts asserted the need for the United Nations and other peace-advocating nations to address the issues of Indian illegal occupation, state-sanctioned terrorism, and harsh measures in Jammu and Kashmir. They believe the BJP-led Indian government should be urged to address the Kashmir dispute in alignment with United Nations resolutions and the desires of the Kashmiri populace.
