Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has taken a step in international judicial cooperation with Hon’ble Justice Ayesha A. Malik’s participation in an international workshop on climate litigation held in Hangzhou, China. The event, titled “Judicial Services for Green and Low-Carbon Transition and Development,” provided a platform for judges and judicial experts from different jurisdictions to discuss climate litigation and the judiciary’s role in sustainable development.

According to Press Information Department, the five-day program, organized by the Supreme People’s Court of China, featured Justice Malik delivering a keynote address on Pakistan’s climate jurisprudence. Her presentation highlighted rights-based climate governance, institutional accountability, and emerging trends in climate adjudication. She emphasized the importance of gender-sensitive perspectives in climate responses and judicial decision-making.

Justice Malik also engaged in discussions with judges from the Supreme People’s Court of China and the Zhejiang Higher People’s Court on comparative judicial approaches to climate litigation and sustainable development. Her contributions were well-received, sparking discussions among participants about Pakistan’s growing climate jurisprudence and its impact on global climate governance and environmental accountability.
