Supreme Court Justice Convenes Third Arbitration Law Review Committee Meeting

Islamabad, 12 Oct 2023:Hon’ble Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan and Chairman of the Arbitration Law Review Committee, convened the committee’s third meeting today at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad, as per a press release from the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by eminent legal and governmental figures, including Mr. Muhammad Makhdoom Ali Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, Mr. Feisal Hussain Naqvi, Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Barrister Mian Sami Uddin, Advocate, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Ms. Riffat Inam Butt, Secretary, Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Khashih-ur-Rehman, AS/EDGII, Board of Investment, Islamabad, Mr. Zafar Iqbal Khokhar, Research Officer, Research Centre Supreme Court of Pakistan and Mr. Hassan Mehmood, Consultant Ministry of Law and Justice, Islamabad.

Mr. Feisal Hussain Naqvi presented an overview of the proposed legislation on arbitration, which is formulated on the UNCITRAL Model Law and encompasses both domestic and international arbitration. The forthcoming law aims to expedite the resolution of all arbitration-related disputes and will repeal and replace the Arbitration Act, 1940, with a modern law harmonized with international best practices. The Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) intends to share the draft legislation with the general public, experts, and stakeholders in the near future to gather feedback and enhance the comprehensiveness and inclusivity of the law.
