SUKKUR: Sukkur has been nominated as one of four cities globally for a prestigious award at the upcoming World Water Summit in Paris. This recognition is part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals initiative, as announced in a press conference by Mayor and Sindh Government Spokesperson Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh.
Shaikh highlighted significant advancements in Sukkur’s water infrastructure. Key developments include the installation of a modern water treatment plant in the industrial area and the establishment of filtration plants in each union committee. Plans are also underway to ensure that every household has access to clean drinking water.
In addition to improvements in water supply and drainage systems, Shaikh pointed out the establishment of world-class healthcare facilities. Under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party, hospitals such as the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Children’s Hospital, and the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) have been established.
Furthermore, the city has seen a reconstruction of 90% of its major roads, including Military Road, Barrage Road, Minara Road, and High Court Road. These developments contribute to Sukkur’s recognition on the global stage.
The nomination at the World Water Summit reflects the city’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and quality of life for its residents.
