Islamabad, October 06, 2022 (PPI-OT):Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema and Federal Minister Syed Naveed Qamar co-chaired a meeting of re-constituted Sugar Advisory Board at Ministry of National Food Security and Research on Thursday. The Sugar Advisory Board members include Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Federal Minister for Commerce, Federal Secretaries of National Food Security, Commerce and Industries and Production, representatives of all provinces and all other stakeholders.
The Sugar Advisory Board is a tripartite recommendatory body, comprising members from Federal Government, Provincial governments and sugar industry/growers/associations, for input on matters related to sugar. Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Tariq Bashir Cheema welcomed the participants and hoped that the forum will continue to work for the betterment of growers, sugar mills and other stakeholders related to the sugar industry.
The board members discussed the price, production and stock of sugar in the post-flood scenario. Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar stressed that before taking any decision, statistics of damages and stock of commodities should be verified and authenticated.
On raising the issue of sugar surplus by sugar mills associations, Federal Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema informed the participants that the Federal Government will ensure food security in the country and shall not make any decision without fully verifying the claims of the associations to ensure price stability for the consumers.
