Islamabad: Motorcycles, public service buses, and transport vehicles including trucks and long-vehicles registered with relevant authorities are now eligible for a government subsidy, according to government officials.
According to Radio Pakistan, the announcement was made by Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani during a news conference in Islamabad. They detailed that the Federal Government, in collaboration with provincial governments, has established a mechanism for the subsidy disbursement. Provincial authorities have provided data on registered vehicles to facilitate the transfer of subsidies to owners using their Computerized National Identity Cards.
Minister Khawaja mentioned that on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the subsidy disbursement for public service buses and goods transport operators began last night. Minister Kayani emphasized the government’s commitment to providing relief to citizens amid rising global petroleum prices, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
