Stricter Attendance and Work Protocols Enforced for District Engineers in Quetta

Quetta: Amidst growing concerns over delays in vital development projects and misconduct in financial dealings, Lal Jan Jafar, the Provincial Secretary of Communications and Construction, has mandated strict attendance and operational protocols for all district engineer officers in the province. The new directives were issued during a recent Zoom meeting aimed at addressing these challenges and enhancing the efficiency of ongoing projects.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, Secretary Jafar criticized the frequent absenteeism reported among the engineers, which has been a significant factor in the sluggish progress of development initiatives across various districts. He emphasized the necessity for engineers to be present at their designated posts to ensure that projects move forward without delay. Secretary Jafar stated, “Ensure your attendance and accelerate progress on development projects so that there is no chance of complaint.”

Further instructions were provided regarding the maintenance and grading of roads in agricultural and particularly garden areas of the province, highlighting the economic impact poor infrastructure can have on landowners. The Secretary expressed his concerns about the potential losses that could arise from neglected road conditions, especially during seasonal changes.

In a stern warning against corrupt practices, Secretary Jafar condemned the advance payments to contractors and explicitly instructed the engineering officers to avoid such transactions. He remarked on the vulnerability this creates, leaving the department at the “mercy of contractors” and susceptible to blackmail. He also directed attention to previously halted schemes, urging engineers to restart and complete these projects promptly and report back on their status.

Secretary Jafar reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in utilizing public funds for development projects. “Completing development projects honestly and using public money properly is our first priority and it is our duty to take special care of the quality of all development projects. Therefore, no laziness or negligence in fulfilling this duty will be tolerated,” he affirmed.

The meeting underscores a significant push towards improving the management and execution of development projects in the region, aiming to foster a more responsible and efficient administrative environment.
