Strict Restrictions Imposed in Srinagar During Assembly Elections

Srinagar: The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has implemented severe restrictions in the occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on its summer capital, Srinagar, amid ongoing assembly elections. These measures have prompted concerns about the suppression of civil rights and liberties in the area.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the District Magistrate of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, has enacted prohibitory orders from September 23 until 6:00 PM on September 25. During this period, the authorities have heightened restrictions, particularly affecting the assembly elections currently taking place. The orders specifically ban all forms of assemblies, processions, and rallies. Additionally, individuals are prohibited from organizing, participating in, or speaking at any public meetings or processions related to the elections and other public activities.

This enforcement is part of a continuing pattern of actions that have brought the commitment of the BJP-led regime to democratic principles and human rights in occupied Jammu and Kashmir into question. Similar restrictions have been imposed in the past, leading to widespread concerns about the repression of dissent and the degradation of fundamental freedoms in the region.
