Islamabad, May 17, 2023 (PPI-OT): Ms. Shahida Rehmani, MNA and Convener of Pakistan-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) met with H.E. Mr. Oybek Usmanov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Pakistan on Wednesday, 17th May, 2023 at 1300 hours at Parliament House, Islamabad.

Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Convener Pakistan-Uzbekistan PFG expressed her desire to expand cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and agreed to further strengthen the ties in political, trade, communication, education and cultural sectors. She stated that Tashkent and Islamabad have been bounded by historic caravan roads, industrial linkages, and integration connections.

Ms. Shahida Rehmani, highlighted that trade and economic cooperation is a key priority for strengthening the partnership between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed the important role of the Termez-Mazar-e-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project for the future of the region. Ambassador of Uzbekistan expressed his desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan in multiple areas. He underscored the need for greater communication network to realize trade potential between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Ambassador of Uzbekistan expressed his gratitude for the cordial and warm welcome extended to him from Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Convener Pakistan-Uzbekistan PFG and invited her along with group members to visit Republic of Uzbekistan at a convenient time. Ms. Shahida Rehmani, Convener Pakistan-Uzbekistan PFG accepted the invitation with appreciation. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels. Both sides agreed to focus on strengthening bilateral institutional collaboration; enhance frequency of exchange of delegations as well as increasing high level contacts and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
