State Minister Pledges Support to Competition Commission in Islamabad Visit


Islamabad: The State Minister for Finance and Revenue, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) during a visit to the Commission. The minister highlighted the importance of the CCP in addressing market failures and safeguarding consumer rights against anti-competitive practices. He emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to enhancing the CCP’s capacity through legislative reforms, legal follow-ups, and capacity-building initiatives.



According to Press Information Department, Mr. Malik emphasized the necessity of a thorough review of the Competition Act to ensure its relevance and effectiveness in addressing current challenges. He stated that market competitiveness is crucial for protecting consumer interests and fostering new startups and investments. During the visit, CCP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu provided an overview of the Commission’s functions, performance, and ongoing inquiries in key economic sectors, while also outlining the legal hurdles faced by the CCP.



Minister Malik assured his full support to the CCP in overcoming these challenges and requested a detailed list of pending court cases and stay orders to expedite their resolution with the Attorney General and Law Ministry. He urged Dr. Sidhu to maintain close coordination with the Finance Ministry to ensure vigilant protection of consumer interests. The meeting was attended by CCP Members Mr. Saeed Ahmed, Mr. Salman Amin, Mr. Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Ms. Bushra Naz, and Directors Generals.
