Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Science and Technology convened its sixth meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad, focusing on the operations and challenges of the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA). Chaired by Mr. Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, the meeting emphasized the necessity of appointing a permanent Director General for PSQCA, highlighting that consistent leadership is crucial for the Authority’s effective functioning.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee underscored the absence of permanent leadership in other key institutions under the Ministry of Science and Technology. It called on the Ministry to expedite the appointment process, asserting that institutional performance and governance depend on stable leadership. The Committee also recommended that the Minister of Science and Technology participate in all future meetings to foster productive discussions.
The Committee reiterated its dedication to addressing governance issues within Pakistan’s science and technology sector, acknowledging the importance of these institutions in socio-economic development. The meeting was attended by several Members of the National Assembly and senior officials from the Ministry and PSQCA.
