Standing Committee Stalls Railways Bill Amid Political Absence

Islamabad: A critical session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways was abruptly adjourned today due to the absence of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members, stalling the progress of “The Transfer of Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2025” at Parliament House, Islamabad. Presiding over the meeting in the Chairman’s absence, Mr. Waseem Qadir, MNA, cited the need for presence from all parties for a comprehensive discussion on the legislative proposal.

The Committee, adhering to sub-rule (2) of Rule 216 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, found it prudent to delay the Bill’s consideration. This decision underscores the significant role of political representation in the legislative process, highlighting the necessity for inclusive participation in crucial national matters. The postponement reflects ongoing challenges in maintaining cross-party collaboration within the parliamentary framework.

Attendees of the session included MNAs Mr. Ibrar Ahmed, Haji Jamal Shah Kakar, Syed Waseem Hussain, Mr. Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, and Mr. Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry, along with officials from the Railway Ministry and Pakistan Railways. The deferment of the Bill is set to impact impending legislative schedules, emphasizing the need for strategic planning in future meetings to ensure timely progression of legislative duties.
