Standing Committee on Railways meets

Islamabad, February 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):The meeting of the Standing Committee on Railways held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, MNA, in Committee Room of Ministry of Railways, D Block Pak Secretariat, Islamabad to discuss the agenda items issued vide Secretariat Notice of the meeting dated 4th February, 2022.

Minister for Railways and other senior official of the Railways briefed the Committee about its one year’s performance to the Committee. During the briefing, Railways informed that the earning of Railways have increased 1064 billion in 2020-21 as compared to 2019-20. Railways are going to surrender its sanctioned posts for saving the funds.

Railways are going to open the Dargai track soon as the Railways spent 2 billion on it for generating the fund through operation of maximum train. Railways has saved a lot of money by installing the electricity meters for the individual and made them the direct customer of Wapda rather than the Railways. Railways tourism train rehabilitated as Attock Safari train for generating the funds.

E procurement policy and E-tendering is introduced in Railways just to save the money. Similarly, the Railways has started the centralized payroll, Field staff monitoring E office, face attendance of the employees of Railways and planning portal in the Railways. The Committee appreciated the efforts of the ministry. Karachi Circular, and container terminal at Pipri, Karachi project are under consideration and will be completed soon.

Minister for Railways informed the Committee that the Ministry of Railways has completed its studies for international railways tracks for future connectivity of Railways with Afghanistan, Iran, and Russian states. The Committee appreciated the Ministry. The Committee also discussed the ML-I project and pended till the briefing by the C PEC authority in the next meeting.

The Committee was briefed by Ministry of Railways about the PSDP for the year 2022-23 by the Ministry of Railways in the presence of Finance Division and Planning Division and the Committee was view that both the division should have focused on the new and ongoing projects of the ministry of Railways and ensure the timely release of the grants for execution of the projects as approved by the Committee.

Besides the Hon. Minister for Railways, the meeting was attended by Mr. Bashir Khan, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Mr. Tahir Iqbal, Mr. Aftab Jehangir, Ms. Nusrat Wahid, Engr. Sabir Hussain Kaim Khani, Mr. Ali Pervaiz, Mr. Muhammad Khan Daha, Mr. Nauman Islam Shaikh, Mr. Ramesh Lal, MNAs /Members. whereas Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, MNA attended the meeting on online video call. The senior officers of the Ministry of Railways were also present in the meeting.
