Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Division meets

Islamabad, February 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):5th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Division was held today at 11:30 a.m., in Committee Room No.7 (Fourth Floor), Parliament House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, MNA. He welcomed the participants of the meeting. The Committee deferred the Islamic Development Bank (Amendment) Bill, 2019 moved by Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, MNA due to non-availability of mover.

The Hon. Minister briefed the Committee regarding the Non-Governmental Organizations / International Non-Governmental Organization working in Pakistan, their sponsors and the allocated funds. He said that National Coordination Committee on Foreign Funded Projects (NCC-FFP) under the Chair of the Minister for Economic Affairs has been constituted on the directions of the Hon.

Prime Minister, to fast-track the disbursement of external economic assistance, undertake portfolio review of problematic projects and track the delays in the implementation. He added that after the meetings conducted by NCC-FFP with all the stakeholders, a successful progress has been reflected.

Many issues hurdling the implementation of projects were resolved and the communication gaps between the development partners and implementing agencies were abridged, resulting in a positive outcome in terms of disbursements and generic issue of projects implementations.

Concerning the allocation of the funds on different projects in the federating units, the Committee recommended that all the stakeholders i.e. the Ministry of Interior, Chief Secretaries of all the provinces including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan may be invited in the meeting.

The Committee further recommended that Ministry may come up with complete proposals regarding disbursement of funds, hurdles in implementation of projects and make new laws to expedite the timely implementation of the projects in all sectors. Moreover, the Committee recommended that fake NGOs may be abolished and streamline/restructure the registration process of NGOs and INGOs and order the audit of the projects working in provinces.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Aftab Jehangir, Ms. Aliya Hamza Malik, Mr. Salahuddin, Mr. Ali Zahid, Syed Javed Hasnain, Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Ms. Aisha Ghous Pasha, Mr. Khursheed Ahmed Junejo MNAs and Minister for Economic Affairs besides the senior officers from M/o Economic Affairs Division and Ministry of Interior.
