Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges convened its 16th meeting at the Parliament House, chaired by Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA, where it decided to form a Sub-Committee to examine amendments proposed by Syed Rafiullah, MNA, to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. The Sub-Committee is tasked with providing a detailed report within thirty days for further consideration.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting addressed amendments related to Rules 2, 43 sub rule (4), and 247, along with the proposed addition of a rule following Rule 39B. A Sub-Committee led by Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, MNA, was established to scrutinize these proposals in detail. Additionally, the committee examined a Question of Privilege from Ms. Shagufta Jumani, MNA, concerning the non-issuance of boarding passes by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for her family’s confirmed flight. The committee requested a comprehensive inquiry into the incident from PIA’s CEO.
The meeting also deferred consideration of privilege questions by Dr. Darshan and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, MNAs, and amendments proposed by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA, opting to revisit these issues in a subsequent meeting. Attendees included several MNAs and senior officers from relevant ministries and authorities.
