Standing Committee Decides to Address Law and Order in Balochistan and Islamabad Infrastructure Delays

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control convened for its 28th meeting at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the leadership of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, MNA. The committee confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting and assessed the implementation of earlier recommendations, expressing satisfaction with compliance. Members discussed the law and order situation in Balochistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, deciding to hold a future meeting in Quetta to further evaluate conditions and generate recommendations.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, several legislative matters were on the agenda, including the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2026, both of which were deferred for further consideration. The West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was recommended for withdrawal after the Ministry of Law and Justice indicated its provisions were already covered by the Finance Act, 2026-27.

The committee expressed concern over delays in the construction of Sher Dhamial Road and Sigga Bintrar Road in Islamabad, with the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) attributing the issue to budgetary constraints. The CDA was directed to prioritize ongoing projects over new schemes and to report on available funds at the next meeting. The committee also addressed the need for a feasibility study on regularizing illegal housing schemes in Islamabad, urging the government to establish a regulatory framework to manage existing and future developments.

Additionally, the committee expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in transferring land records from Rawalpindi to Islamabad, emphasizing the public’s hardship caused by this issue. Relevant authorities were instructed to provide a timeline for resolving the matter at the committee’s next meeting. The meeting included participation from various ministers, MNAs, and senior officers from related government departments.
