Karachi, In a disturbing revelation from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar reported a strikingly high number of deaths this year, totaling 3,110 till November. This figure represents a concerning increase in mortality rates compared to the previous years.
According to Kashmir Media Service, official statistics revealed a steady rise in the number of deaths at SMHS Hospital, with 1,813 deaths in 2020, 2,068 in 2021, and a significant jump to 3,176 in 2022. The data for 2023 alone, showing 3,110 reported deaths, paints a troubling picture of the healthcare challenges in the region.
The statistics were obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by a local media outlet at SMHS Hospital Srinagar. The revelation of these figures has sparked public concern and raised questions about the hospital’s ability to effectively manage medical emergencies and health care in general.
The sharp increase in mortality rates at the hospital has brought the overall state of healthcare in the territory under scrutiny. Medical Superintendent (MS) of SMHS Hospital Srinagar, Muzafar Ahmad Zargar, responded to the figures, stating, “I will see how these figures have come about.”
This development highlights the need for a thorough examination of healthcare facilities and services in the region, with an emphasis on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of the rising death toll.
