Srinagar Women Protest Over Water Shortage, Criticize Government Neglect

Srinagar: A group of women in the Abi Guzar area of Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, have publicly demonstrated against what they perceive as government neglect during a significant water crisis. The protestors, facing acute water scarcity, have called for immediate government action to alleviate their suffering.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the women gathered outside the Public Health Engineering (PHE) office on Exchange Road, vocalizing their needs through slogans and demanding resolution to the ongoing water shortage. The demonstration marks a continuation of their efforts, with previous protests having taken place just days before, each underscoring the increasing severity of the crisis.

The protesters shared their daily challenges, emphasizing their inability to meet basic household and personal needs due to the water scarcity. They expressed profound dissatisfaction with the occupation authorities’ policies, which they argue have ignored the essential requirements of the populace.

Local voices, including Shameema Akhtar, indicate that the situation has deteriorated significantly over recent weeks, impacting all aspects of community and family life. The repeated demonstrations by the women of Abi Guzar highlight a growing frustration and urgency in addressing their fundamental need for water.
