Srinagar: Early Tuesday morning, the community of Gund-Jahangeer Hajin in the Bandipora district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir brought traffic to a halt on the Sopore-Sumbal road. The residents, including men and women, are demanding prompt action from local authorities for the retrieval of a drowned boy’s body.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protests erupted following the drowning of Sahil Rasheed, a minor who tragically lost his life two days ago in Nallah Ferozpora at Haritara Sopore. The demonstrators are calling for the district administration to take immediate steps to recover the boy’s body.
Abdul Majid, a local from the area, expressed the community’s despair and urgency. “We are very saddened and also frustrated,” he stated, emphasizing the lack of significant efforts from the authorities to address the tragedy. “We merely demand that the district administration deploy SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) teams to trace and recover the body. This delay is causing us more grief,” Majid added.
The road blockade is a direct response to the perceived inaction over the past two days, highlighting the community’s growing impatience and sorrow.
