Srinagar, Recent rain and snowfall have led to the closure of the Srinagar-Leh highway in the region known as Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, disrupting travel and transportation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, persistent rain in the plains and light snowfall in the mountainous areas prompted the closure of the highway for safety reasons. The adverse weather conditions have also affected other key roads in the region, including the Mughal Road, which remained closed for the second consecutive day.
An official from the traffic police department noted, “The Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road and Mughal road in south Kashmir were closed on Saturday due to fresh rain and snowfall.” However, he mentioned that the 270-km Srinagar-Jammu highway, a vital link connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of the world, was still operational with only minor disruptions reported: “There were some minor issues but the traffic is plying so far.”
