Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Srinagar-Jammu Highway remains closed for a second consecutive day, impacted by landslides and shooting stones at various points along the route.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, hundreds of vehicles, including cars and trucks, are stranded at different locations on the highway. This closure has led to significant disruptions, affecting the transportation of essential goods. Commuters are also experiencing difficulties due to the highway’s ongoing closure.

The highway was initially shut down on Friday due to snow accumulation between Ramsoo and Qazigund, as well as shooting stones, landslides, and mudslides between Nashri and the NAVYUG Tunnel. Numerous vehicles, comprising trucks, passenger vehicles, and buses, were halted at Jakhani in Udhampur. Authorities have advised travelers to avoid the highway until clearance operations are concluded.

In addition to the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, several other critical roads, including the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road to Leh, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Road, are also closed due to snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, multiple avalanches have occurred in the Gulmarg area of Baramulla district. Officials reported that heavy snowfall triggered several snow slides and avalanches in Phase 1 of the Gulmarg area. Fortunately, there have been no reported losses of life or property. Avalanches have also been reported in the Bandipora and Kishtwar districts.

Notably, IIOJK is experiencing rainfall in the plains, while higher elevations are witnessing snowfall. These intense weather conditions have caused significant disruptions to road, rail, and air travel, further impacting daily life and routines for residents in the region.
