Srinagar-Jammu Highway Closure Affects Traffic and Potential Livestock Losses

Srinagar: A significant traffic advisory was issued today for the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to a full closure of the route to heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) and load carriers during specific hours.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the traffic police department of Jammu and Kashmir has advised that the highway will be inaccessible to HMVs and other large load carriers from Qazigund, Kashmir, through the Banihal-Qazigund stretch between 6 am and 3 pm. This restriction is aimed at managing the flow of traffic and ensuring safety on the critical artery connecting the regions of Jammu and Srinagar.

The advisory highlights concerns for load carrier operators, especially those transporting perishable goods and livestock, who might face significant losses due to the timing of the closure. However, these heavy vehicles will be allowed to resume their journeys post-3 pm on Thursday, potentially minimizing the disruption to a certain extent.

This traffic regulation not only impacts the transportation and local economy but also poses a challenge for timely delivery of goods and services across the region. The enforced time frame for the closure suggests an attempt to streamline traffic flow without entirely halting the movement of essential goods.
