Srinagar Experiences Fourth Highest July Temperature on Record

Srinagar: The city recorded its fourth highest temperature for July today, as part of a severe heatwave affecting the Kashmir Valley.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the temperature in Srinagar reached a scorching 36.2°C on Sunday, marking the season’s hottest day. This temperature is among the highest ever recorded for the month of July in the city’s history.

The all-time highest temperature for July in Srinagar was 38.3°C, noted on July 10, 1946. Other high records include 37°C on July 9, 1999, and 36.6°C in 1997, as reported by the meteorological department. The heatwave also affected other areas of the valley, with Qazigund and Kokernag setting new maximum temperature records for July at 35.6°C and 34.6°C, respectively.

Despite the intense heat, the meteorological department forecasts a continuation of the heatwave, accompanied by generally cloudy weather and intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers in the coming days. A significant drop in daytime temperatures is anticipated starting from July 29.

Additionally, the meteorological department has issued warnings for intense showers, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas, particularly noting the possibility of heavy rainfall in some parts of the Jammu region.
