Islamabad: In a gesture aimed at bolstering medical cooperation, Sri Lanka has donated five eye corneas to Pakistan, which were presented by the Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane to her Pakistani counterpart, Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi. This donation continues the longstanding support from Sri Lanka in this crucial area of healthcare.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan has received a significant number of corneas from Sri Lanka over the years, totaling 35,000, which constitutes about forty percent of Sri Lanka’s total cornea donations. This contribution has been vital in addressing eye care and surgical needs in Pakistan, reflecting a strong partnership between the two countries in health and humanitarian assistance.
