Spring-Thaw Simulation Exercise Enhances Disaster Preparedness in Islamabad

Islamabad, A two-day simulation exercise focusing on spring-thaw emergencies, organized by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), concluded today in Islamabad. The exercise, designed to bolster preparedness for natural disasters and emergencies, brought together various stakeholders to enhance coordination and response strategies.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the simulation engaged participants from Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the National Highway Authority, the Armed Forces, Rescue 1122, United Nations Agencies, and representatives of welfare organizations.

The exercise aimed to simulate a range of natural disasters and emergency scenarios, including drought, wildfires, and glacial lake outburst floods, to test the preparedness and response mechanisms of all involved agencies. The initiative reflects NDMA’s commitment to improving Pakistan’s disaster response capabilities, ensuring that the nation is better equipped to handle emergencies and protect its citizens.

The successful completion of the Spring-thaw simulation exercise marks a significant step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s disaster management and emergency response framework. It underscores the importance of collaboration among national and provincial disaster management authorities, emergency services, and international partners in mitigating the impact of natural disasters on the population.
