Speakers at Delhi event urge rights activists to visit IIOJK to ascertain grouand situation 

New Delhi, October 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speakers at a conference while expressing concern over the prevailing human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir called upon Indian human rights activists to visit Jammu and Kashmir to ascertain the ground situation in the territory. The two-day conference on human rights and civil liberties was held in the Indian capital, New Delhi. The speakers said the assessment gleaned from interviews of the Kashmiris and first-hand observations, then, be shared with the Indian people.

The event was attended by prominent human rights activists, political analysts, journalists and people from other walks of life from across India. APHC leader Mir Shahid Saleem while addressing on the occasion said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Indian government has turned illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir into a colony where basic human and democratic rights of the people are violated on daily basis.

Mir Shahid Saleem said that since the revocation of the special status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, India has been treating the territory as its colony. There is no democracy in Jammu and Kashmir and there is no supremacy of constitution and law, he said and added that India wants to suppress the voice of Kashmiris through brutal use of force. Besides Mir Shahid Saleem, other who spoke at the conference included Dr. Suresh Khernar, Rakesh Rafiq, Alok Sharma, Professor Anand Kumar, Shiv Murthy and Kanchan. The speakers expressed deep concern over the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
