Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Emphasizes Commitment to Parliamentary Fairness and Constitutional Adherence


Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, addressed the National Assembly during the Budget Session 2026-27, affirming his dedication to the Constitution, parliamentary traditions, and democratic values. Sadiq responded to remarks from the Leader of the Opposition, emphasizing the importance of respectful political discourse and the need for mutual respect among members.



According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Sadiq recounted his political journey, detailing his resignation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1998 and subsequent joining of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) in 2001, emphasizing his commitment to democratic principles. He clarified that recent remarks about Shah Mahmood Qureshi were taken out of context and reiterated his stance on the issue. Additionally, Sadiq addressed personal remarks made against him in the House, underscoring his commitment to maintaining dignity and restraint in response to criticism.



Sadiq highlighted the constitutional protections afforded to the Speaker’s office and expressed his openness to constructive criticism. In response to allegations of constitutional violations, he challenged the claims by seeking specific details, which were not provided. Sadiq stressed the temporary nature of political offices and the enduring importance of respect and dignity in political relationships.



Throughout the Budget Session, Sadiq ensured increased participation from opposition members in debates and discussions, including extending time for budget debates and cut motions. Despite his efforts to encourage participation, some members did not attend the sessions. Sadiq reaffirmed his commitment to equal opportunities for all members and the maintenance of parliamentary integrity and effectiveness.
