Islamabad, On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf emphasized the alarming increase in diabetes cases in Pakistan. He pointed out that Pakistan ranks third globally and second in the Middle East and Africa in terms of the number of diabetes patients.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Ashraf expressed concern over the fact that the number of diabetes patients in Pakistan has surpassed 3.3 million. In his message, he highlighted the significance of World Diabetes Day, celebrated annually on November 14, as a means to raise awareness about this chronic disease.
The Speaker paid homage to Frederick Banting’s contribution to medicine, particularly the invention of insulin, which he described as a boon for diabetes patients. He also stressed the complexity of diabetes and its rapid spread in Pakistan, urging the public to make positive lifestyle changes and be mindful of their diet to prevent the disease.
This message from the Speaker of the National Assembly underscores the growing health challenge posed by diabetes in Pakistan and the need for increased public awareness and preventative measures.
