Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf’s special message on the occasion of World Literacy Day

Islamabad, September 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has said in his special message on the occasion of World Literacy Day that the secret of the country’s development and prosperity lies in the promotion of education. He said that no society can develop without increasing the literacy rate.

Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that equipping the youth with modern and quality education is the requirement of the present time. He said that under Article (A) 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan, the government is required to ensure the provision of free quality education to children between the ages of 5 and 16 years. He said that in the financial year 2022-23, the federal and provincial governments allocated significant funds for the promotion of education. He said that the budget for the financial year 2022-23 has been increased by 37.3 percent for the education sector as compared to the previous financial year. He said that the Parliament passed several bills regarding the establishment of universities for the promotion of higher education in the country.

Speaker National Assembly further said that establishment of Panjab University Pothwar Campus in Gujar Khan is being implemented. He said that the establishment of Punjab University Potohar Campus Gujjar Khan, Rawalpindi will provide opportunities to the students of the region to get higher education. He said that measures need to be taken on priority basis to promote education in the country and bring the literacy rate to 100%.

Asekar further said that Pakistan is following the Agenda 2030 goal of sustainable development in the field of education. He said that more than 23 million children are out of school in the country. Greater efforts are needed to bring out-of-school children into schools and improve the quality of education. The speaker said that all stakeholders have to work together to make education universal in the country. He said that to increase the literacy rate in the country, there is a need to create awareness among the people.
