Islamabad: On Tree Plantation Day, Speaker National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, highlighted the pressing need to view tree planting as a crucial national obligation to counteract the escalating threats of environmental pollution and climate change.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq pointed out that unchecked deforestation has resulted in severe environmental issues such as torrential rains, soil erosion, floods, air pollution, and erratic weather patterns. He called for immediate and coordinated action to secure a cleaner and safer environment for future generations.
Highlighting the benefits of trees, Sadiq noted that they provide oxygen and are vital for ecological stability. Trees play a significant role in mitigating climate change effects and preserving the planet’s natural beauty.
He urged the nation to make tree plantation a continuous and collective effort, encouraging citizens to contribute actively. “A green and thriving Pakistan requires joint efforts from both the government and the public,” he stated, advocating for large-scale plantation drives in educational institutions and communities.
Sadiq also emphasized that planting saplings is just the beginning; their survival through regular care is crucial for them to mature into strong trees that support the ecosystem. He concluded that sustainable development and a healthy society can only be achieved when tree plantation is recognized as a shared responsibility.
Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also marked Tree Plantation Day, emphasizing tree planting’s importance not only as an environmental necessity but also as part of religious teachings and cultural values. He stressed raising public awareness to green both urban and rural areas, urging the public, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to actively participate in plantation campaigns for a greener and more prosperous Pakistan.
