Karachi, Senior Indian National Congress leader Sonia Gandhi accused the Modi government of suffocating democracy by suspending Members of Parliament (MPs) for raising legitimate demands. This statement comes amid the recent suspension of over 140 opposition MPs from Parliament.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the suspended MPs, who were demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah regarding a recent security breach in Parliament, have faced disciplinary action. Sonia Gandhi, addressing the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting in Parliament’s Central Hall, criticized the unprecedented number of suspensions of Opposition MPs. She emphasized that their demand for a statement from the home minister on the events of December 13 was perfectly reasonable and legitimate.
Gandhi also expressed her disapproval of the government’s response to their requests, describing it as arrogant and dismissive. In protest against the suspension of Opposition members, Congress MPs staged a demonstration within the Parliament premises, highlighting the ongoing political tension.
The situation underscores the intensifying conflict between the ruling government and the opposition, marking a significant moment in India’s parliamentary democracy.
