New Delhi, The Socialist Party India (SPI) has vehemently criticized the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), labeling it as a discriminatory political tool that poses a threat to the citizenship and rights of Indian citizens, particularly targeting the Muslim community.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a strongly worded statement released in New Delhi, the Socialist Party India articulated its concerns about the CAA’s potential to destabilize the Northeast region of the country and its biased impact on Muslim citizens. The party called for a collective national protest against the enactment of the CAA, describing it as a harmful piece of legislation that stands in opposition to the principles of equality and secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
“The CAA remains a pernicious piece of legislation, and we continue to strongly oppose it,” declared the SPI, reinforcing its stance against what it views as an unconstitutional and flawed law. The statement further emphasized the perceived injustice of the CAA, suggesting that it would unfairly target Muslim citizens by presuming all Indians to be non-citizens until proven otherwise, thereby undermining the fundamental rights of a significant portion of the population.
The SPI also raised alarms over the newly framed rules under the CAA, arguing that they could lead to increased ethnic tensions and divisions within Assam and other Northeastern states, which have already been experiencing disturbances. By highlighting these critical issues, the Socialist Party India sought to draw attention to the broader implications of the CAA on the social fabric and unity of the nation.
In its call to action, the SPI urged not just its supporters but all Indians, including social media influencers and civil society organizations, to stand in solidarity against the CAA and to actively participate in protests and campaigns aimed at revoking the controversial law.
