Six arrested after Anti-Modi posters appear in Delhi

New Delhi, March 22, 2023 (PPI-OT): Posters against the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi that reading “Modi hatao, desh bachao (Remove Modi, save the country)” surfaced at several places in New Delhi, this morning. Six people, including the owners of two printing presses, have been arrested in connection with the incident, media reports quoting police officials said. Police said that at least 2,000 posters were removed and a similar number were seized from a van at IP Estate when it was coming out from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters on DDU Marg. The vehicle was also seized.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Dependra Pathak, confirmed to the media that police registered 100 FIRs in connection with the pasting of posters against the prime minister. The posters didn’t have details of the printing press,” Deependra Pathak said. The FIRs have been registered under sections of the Printing Press Act and Defacement of Property Act.

However, this is not the first time that such posters on Modi surfaced in New Delhi. In May 2021, the Delhi Police registered FIRs against at least 25 persons for allegedly putting up posters with comments critical of Modi regarding the COVID vaccination drive.
