Sindh’s Livestock Department Distributes Cattle Packages to 32,000 Families

Karachi: In a move to bolster the agricultural and fisheries sectors of Sindh, the Livestock Department, under the guidance of Advisor to CM Sindh for Livestock and Fisheries, Syed Najmi Alam, has successfully distributed livestock packages to 32,000 families across various districts. The initiative, part of a broader program supported by the World Bank, was detailed in a recent meeting led by Alam.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting also saw the participation of Dr. Nazir Hussain Kalhoro and Siraj Ahmed Solangi, program coordinators for the livestock and fisheries sectors, respectively. Secretary Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi, was also present. The briefing revealed that the provided livestock packages included chicken and goats, aimed at aiding underprivileged families in Tharparkar, Sajawal, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Dadu districts. Each family received five goats four female and one male and ten chickens, nine of which are female.

The program is designed not only to provide immediate animal resources but also to ensure the long-term sustainability of these families’ livelihoods. Vaccinations for the animals are included to protect them from diseases, enhancing the health benefits and productivity of the livestock. In the fisheries sector, the initiative includes the distribution of millions of fish seeds into local lakes, ponds, and canals to support the fishing activities of local communities. Additional support includes the offer of land for constructing fish ponds along the coastal belt of Sindh and providing technical support and resources for fish farming, focusing on freshwater prawns.

Syed Najmi Alam emphasized that these efforts are in alignment with the party’s manifesto and aim to fulfill the vision of party chairman Bilawal Bhutto, focusing on serving the impoverished populations of Sindh.
