Sindh Touts Major Energy Investment Opportunities, Minister Tells British High Commissioner

Karachi, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Provincial Minister of Energy, Development, and Planning, has highlighted the vast opportunities for domestic and foreign investment in Sindh’s energy sector. In a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, Shah emphasized Sindh’s status as Pakistan’s energy hub, boasting a wind corridor capable of producing 55,000 MW and a solar potential of 10 GW.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, the discussion, which also included notable officials like Chairman Planning Board Sindh Najam Ahmad Shah and Secretary Energy Department Kazim Jatoi, covered the existing energy projects in Sindh. These projects contribute 1845 MW of electricity from wind and 250 MW from solar energy to the national grid. Further discussions revealed ongoing projects aimed at harnessing 100 MW of electricity from waste, 15 MW from water, 400 MW from floating solar, and 500 MW from green hydrogen technology.

The meeting also touched on the support from the World Bank to transition all government buildings in the province to solar power, including the development of a 400 MW solar park. The British High Commissioner lauded the Sindh government’s and the energy department’s initiatives in diversifying the energy portfolio and expressed eagerness to facilitate British investment in these sectors.

Minister Shah appreciated the High Commissioner’s support and assured prospective British investors of mutual cooperation and streamlined processes for investment in Sindh’s energy sector. This dialogue signifies a step forward in strengthening international collaboration and attracting significant investment to capitalize on Sindh’s renewable energy potential.
