Sindh Police to Enhance Women and Child Protection Centers with New Reforms

Karachi: In a significant move to bolster the effectiveness of Women and Child Protection Centers across the province, the Sindh Police convened a meeting at the Central Police Office under the leadership of IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. The meeting focused on assessing performance and implementing new reforms aimed at enhancing the investigative and operational frameworks of these centers.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting brought together top officials including CPLC Chief Zubir Raheeb, DIGs of Crime and Investigations, and other key figures in the police hierarchy. The assembly discussed the creation of a special unit within the investigation department to handle cases specifically related to women and child protection. AIG Gender-Based Violence and Human Rights provided a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing cases and performance of the existing 40 centers, highlighting the resolution of a significant number of domestic violence complaints this year.

IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon issued directives to improve the reporting mechanisms at these centers. He stressed the need for a more robust operational structure, including the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for handling both “touchable and non-touchable” complaints, which pertain to the immediate and less immediate needs of victims. Additionally, Memon called for enhanced training for investigative staff and an increase in the number of operators at complaint centers to ensure timely and effective response to incidents.

The meeting also underscored the importance of providing comprehensive awareness materials to staff and the need for assigning cases of organized crime related to women and children to experienced officers. These measures are intended to strengthen the province’s response to gender-based violence and improve support systems for victims.
