Karachi, In preparation for the general elections of 2024, IG Sindh Rafat Mukhtar Raja led a comprehensive meeting to assess the police’s strategy, manpower, and resource allocation. The meeting focused on ensuring robust security measures and maintaining peace and order during the election period.
According to Sindh Police, the meeting was an extensive review of the police department’s readiness for the upcoming elections. IG Sindh Rafat Mukhtar Raja instructed all officers to prepare a contingency plan with foolproof security measures. The plan is expected to be reviewed thoroughly, with a special emphasis on prioritizing suggestions for improvements.
IG Sindh stressed the importance of sustainable communication, strict adherence to the election code of conduct, and implementation of relevant orders. He underscored that all minor reports or complaints during the election campaign should be taken seriously and followed up with prompt responses. The effectiveness and concreteness of all preventive and remedial measures were highlighted as critical to maintaining order.
Additionally, the IG emphasized the need for vigilance in overall security matters, including patrolling, picketing, reconnaissance, surveillance, blockades, and other necessary actions. The police force will not only ensure security during the election but will also monitor and address any potential violations of the election code of conduct by candidates. Ensuring strict adherence to this code is seen as vital for preserving peace on election day.
The meeting saw participation from a wide range of senior police officials, including the Additional IG Karachi, DIGs from Special Branch, Karachi Zones, Traffic, CTD, Headquarters, RAF, SPU, Vidigar, and the DIG Hyderabad Region. These officers connected via video link and received detailed briefings on the meeting’s agenda and priorities, ensuring a unified approach to election security across the region.
