Karachi: In a strategic meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, discussions centered on the performance of Women and Child Protection Centers and the registration and investigation of cases involving missing children.
According to Sindh Police, the meeting led to further instructions aimed at improving the handling of such cases, including the facilitation of First Information Reports (FIRs) and ensuring follow-up responsibilities.
Participants in the meeting included CPLC Chief Zubair Habib, DIG Crime and Investigations, and officers from various departments such as Establishment, IT, CIA, and Headquarters. The DIG Crime and Investigations provided a briefing on the operations of Women and Child Protection Centers and highlighted the roles of 40 WCPCs, seven women police stations, and 31 special sexual offenses units in the province. A plan was discussed to integrate these into “One Stop Protection Centers” to streamline the reporting and investigation processes.
The IG Sindh emphasized the importance of immediate case registration for disappearances and abductions, directing the CPLC to share relevant complaints with the IGP Complaints Cell. The IGP Compliance Cell was tasked with compiling detailed data on missing children cases and ensuring its integration with the Zara and Zainab Alerts systems.
Further measures include enhancing inter-provincial communication systems and ensuring district police officers register cases under the “Trafficking in Persons Act 2018”. The collaboration between CPLC, the Human Rights Department, and other government and social organizations was highlighted as crucial for the effective recovery and safety of missing children.
