Sindh Plans to Revitalize Korangi Fish Harbor and Develop Kati Bandar for Coal Exports

Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Sheikh have reached an agreement to develop the Kati Bandar Sea Port and revitalize the Korangi Fish Harbor. This initiative aims to alleviate the operational load on the Karachi Fish Harbour and facilitate the export of coal from Thar.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting at the Chief Minister’s House focused on resolving land disputes between the Sindh Government and the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to pave the way for these projects. Shah emphasized the need to expedite the development of Kati Bandar to not only relieve pressure on Karachi’s primary port but also to capitalize on Thar’s abundant coal reserves for export purposes.

The discussion highlighted the congestion at Karachi Fish Harbor and the consequent need to enhance the capacity of Korangi Fish Harbor to accommodate more fishing vessels and provide adequate facilities for the fishing community. The Chief Minister has plans to construct an auction house at Korangi Fish Harbor, allowing fishermen to directly auction their catch.

Furthermore, the meeting underscored the necessity of developing a robust road network connecting Keti Bandar with major highways to facilitate the transport of coal and other goods. The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs committed to supporting the Chief Minister’s proposals, acknowledging the potential benefits for the industrial sector in Karachi, Thatta, and Hyderabad.

This collaborative effort between the Sindh Government and the Federal Ministry for Maritime Affairs reflects a strategic approach to enhancing the maritime and industrial infrastructure of the region, with a focus on economic growth and sustainability.
