This landmark event aims to adopt a new “Framework on Culture and Arts Education,” designed to enhance the integration of culture and arts within educational systems globally. The conference will convene Education and Culture Ministers from UNESCO’s 194 Member States, alongside representatives from UN agencies, international organizations, NGOs, academia, and the private sector.

According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, this conference will build upon the foundations laid by the 2006 Lisbon Conference and the 2010 Seoul Conference, updating global frameworks to address contemporary challenges including the evolution of digital tools and artificial intelligence. The initiative reflects a comprehensive effort to update educational strategies, supporting investments that cultivate cultural and artistic competencies for the modern era.

Participants at the conference will engage in discussions across seven thematic ministerial panels and 17 side events, exploring a wide range of topics pertinent to culture and arts education. These include equitable access to education, the role of digital technologies and AI, and the importance of partnerships and financing in promoting cultural education. The program also emphasizes the significance of creating diverse and inclusive learning environments that extend beyond traditional classrooms to include cultural institutions such as museums and heritage sites.

The new UNESCO framework advocates for a holistic approach to culture and arts education, highlighting governance, learning environments, experiences, and the pivotal role of teachers and digital innovation. It also underscores the value of international collaboration in fostering cultural exchange and professional mobility within the creative sector.

In addition to the conference proceedings, journalists and attendees are invited to participate in a cultural visit on February 16 to Abu Dhabi’s historic Al Hosn site, offering an opportunity to engage directly with the emirate’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic initiatives.
