Sindh Government Unveils Budget Priorities with Focus on Key Sectors

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has revealed the provincial budget priorities for the fiscal year 2025-26, emphasizing education, health, water, and sustainable development. During a high-level cabinet meeting, Shah underscored the government’s dedication to inclusive growth and poverty alleviation, guided by directives from PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The cabinet meeting, attended by ministers, advisors, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, and other officials, aimed to discuss and refine the budget proposals. “I want to engage all cabinet members thoroughly in shaping the next budget to ensure it addresses the real needs of our people,” Shah stated, reinforcing the collaborative approach.

Key focus areas for the upcoming budget include water supply, drainage, solar energy, education, healthcare, agriculture, and industrial growth. Shah noted that while no new schemes are being introduced this year, the government plans to complete ongoing projects and launch new initiatives for tangible benefits.

Highlights from the meeting included rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected areas, school and hospital repairs, and mega projects through Public-Private Partnerships to enhance infrastructure. The government also plans to strengthen social protection programs, increase budget allocations for repair and maintenance, and complete transport projects in Karachi.

Cabinet members proposed reducing non-development expenditures, empowering local governments financially, and expanding digital cash transfers. They also suggested improvements in solid waste management, solar energy expansion, and constructing new bus stands for better public transportation.

The chief minister emphasized the need for federal-provincial coordination to finalize the budget. “We will finalize the budget based on the federal government’s funding commitments and our provincial revenue targets to ensure fiscal responsibility and effectiveness,” Shah said.

Further meetings are planned after Eid to finalize and approve the budget proposals. Shah concluded by expressing a commitment to presenting a transparent and development-oriented budget aimed at improving the lives of Sindh residents, signaling a dedication to sustainable development and efficient governance.
