Karachi: In a significant move to boost agricultural productivity, the Sindh government has announced a public-private partnership with the Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) to produce fertilizer utilizing Thar coal. This initiative aims to address fertilizer shortages and enhance agricultural productivity across the country.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Minister for Energy, Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Public-Private Partnership Qasim Naveed Qamar. The meeting included senior officials from the FFC, the Thar Coal Energy Board, and other relevant authorities.

The partnership will see the Sindh government collaborate with the private sector to create affordable and high-quality fertilizer. This move is expected to benefit farmers by meeting the agricultural needs of not only Sindh but the entire nation, effectively eliminating fertilizer shortages.

During the meeting, the FFC delegation provided a detailed briefing on the proposed project and sought the Sindh government’s support in overcoming regulatory and operational challenges. In response, Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and Special Assistant Qasim Naveed Qamar assured full backing, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting public welfare projects.

The officials highlighted Sindh’s investor-friendly policies, which have attracted interest from both local and international investors. They noted the provincial government’s efforts in providing necessary facilities and incentives to investors, in line with the directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for local communities, further contributing to the region’s economic development. Minister Nasir Shah reiterated that the government will ensure no delays occur in the execution of public welfare projects and emphasized the importance of federal coordination to address challenges related to land, water, and regulatory approvals.
