Karachi: In a significant development meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the Public Private Partnership Policy Board approved several major infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the region’s development. These initiatives include the construction of a 17-storey building for NED Science and Technology Park, a desalination plant to supply water to DHA and Safora, and the expansion of Kathor Interchange of Malir Expressway.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting convened at the Chief Minister House, where provincial ministers and key government officials reviewed and greenlit these projects, which also encompassed the construction of the Ghotki Kundhkot bridge. The 17-storey NED Science and Technology Park, which is a collaborative venture with a Kuwaiti company, is set to be a hub for technology companies and startups, featuring high-speed connectivity, research laboratories, and an auditorium among other facilities. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the technology park being granted the status of Special Technology Zone to foster financial benefits for its tenants.
The board also approved a significant water infrastructure project that involves the installation of desalination plants to aid in addressing Karachi’s drinking water scarcity. This initiative will not only supply water to DHA and Safora but also allow excess production to be bottled and sold, which is expected to ensure the project’s sustainability and reduce overall water tariffs.
Furthermore, the expansion of Kathor Interchange was deemed essential to accommodate the increased traffic that will result from the new six-lane Malir Expressway, with the National Highway Authority playing a key role in the technical reviews and subsequent construction efforts.
The meeting also touched upon the ongoing construction of the Ghotki Kundhkot bridge, noting significant progress and the strategic importance of connecting the bridge with major national motorways to enhance transportation links across the region. The Chief Minister approved an additional Rs 2 billion funding to ensure the completion of these pivotal projects, marking a major step in Sindh’s infrastructure development under public-private partnerships.
