Sindh Government and ADB Collaborate on Major Housing Project for Flood Victims

Karachi, The Sindh government, led by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has engaged in pivotal discussions with an Asian Development Bank (ADB) delegation to construct 250,000 houses for flood victims, marking a significant stride toward rehabilitation and infrastructure improvement in the region.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the negotiations with the ADB, spearheaded by delegation head Mr. Hong Su Lee, focused on finalizing a $400 million investment for housing development, with an additional $100 million earmarked for community infrastructure enhancements. The meeting underscored the urgent need for robust accommodations and facilities for those impacted by the floods, highlighting the initiative’s scope that includes efficient drainage systems, reliable drinking water supplies, and the integration of solar energy solutions in the new housing units.

The Chief Minister emphasized the broader commitment of the Sindh government to support flood victims, referencing party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s manifesto pledge to establish low-cost housing solutions. The meeting also illuminated progress on existing housing commitments, with CEO SPHF Khalid Shaikh reporting the completion of 100,000 out of a planned 1 million houses, and ongoing construction for the remainder.

The collaborative venture between the Sindh government and the ADB illustrates a concerted effort to address the dire housing needs precipitated by the flood crisis.
