Sindh Energy Minister Promotes Investment in Renewable Energy During Talks with Iranian Delegation

Karachi, In a move to bolster Sindh’s energy sector, Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah met with a delegation led by Iranian Consul General Hassan Nourian to discuss the revitalization of the Pak-Iran Wind Power Project. The meeting highlighted Sindh’s potential as a prime location for both domestic and foreign investment in renewable energy resources.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, the discussions took place at the minister’s office where Nasir Shah emphasized Sindh’s rich natural resources and suitability for renewable energy projects. The Iranian delegation outlined the challenges that have stalled the Pak-Iran Wind Power Project, expressing optimism that resolving these issues would allow the project to commence and start generating electricity soon.

Nasir Shah reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to alternative energy as a strategic response to the ongoing energy crisis, aligning with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s directives on solarization and alternative energy initiatives. He detailed significant efforts, such as the distribution of two lakh solar panels with World Bank support and plans to provide free electricity to five lakh extremely poor households through solarization.

The minister directed Energy Secretary Mossadiq Ahmad Khan and Director of Alternative Energy Mahfooz Qazi to prioritize removing obstacles hindering the Pak-Iran Wind Power Project. He assured that both domestic and foreign investors would receive comprehensive support from the government, enhancing Sindh’s appeal as an investment destination in the alternative energy sector.

Furthermore, the meeting explored business-to-business collaborations to expedite the wind power project, with a particular focus on leveraging facilities through the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) and the Sindh Energy Regulatory Authority (SEPA).

Consul General Nourian appreciated the Sindh government’s cooperative stance and pledged to encourage Iranian investment in Sindh’s burgeoning energy sector. This meeting marks a significant step towards advancing Sindh’s capabilities in sustainable energy and fostering international collaboration.
