Sindh Energy Minister Announces Solarization Plan for Public Buildings

Karachi, Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah revealed plans for a phased solarization of public sector buildings, aiming to provide 47 MW of electricity through this initiative. The announcement came during a meeting with a World Bank technical mission led by Senior Energy Specialist Dmytro Glazkov.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, Minister Shah detailed the three-phase solarization strategy starting with the installation of solar panels on 34 public buildings to generate 21.7MW in the first phase. The subsequent phases will see an additional 25 government buildings equipped with solar panels to produce a total of 13 MW by 2024. Furthermore, a 4MW floating solar project is planned for the Hyderabad Qasimabad treatment plant.

The minister underscored the Sindh government’s commitment to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s directive from the PPP manifesto to accelerate the provision of free electricity through solar energy, particularly aiming to support poor consumers using 100 to 300 units. The World Bank delegation expressed satisfaction with the progress of the solar energy project and assured continued support. Minister Shah emphasized the ongoing daily monitoring of the project’s progress and the drive to expedite the solarization process.
