Sindh Criticizes Punjab Amid Water Shortage and Celebrates Cancer Center Launch

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah voiced strong criticism against the Punjab government for opening the TP Link Canal amid a significant water shortage in Sindh. The chief minister’s remarks were made during a media interaction at the inauguration ceremony of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Dow University of Health Sciences.

Sindh is currently experiencing a 50 percent water shortage. Mr. Shah labeled the opening of the TP Link Canal as irresponsible under these circumstances. He emphasized that Punjab’s actions are weakening its own position while strengthening Sindh’s stance. The chief minister declared that efforts would continue until there is an official commitment to halt canal projects.

The media address occurred after Mr. Shah inaugurated the Comprehensive Cancer Center and a girls’ hostel at Dow University. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Chairman HEC Sindh Professor Tariq Rafi, VC Dow University Dr. Saeed Qureshi, medical professionals, and government officials.

Mr. Shah described the cancer center’s inauguration as a historic day for Sindh. He highlighted the facility’s potential to significantly aid patients battling cancer. He announced plans to install three advanced machines at the center and called upon philanthropists and the private sector to support the initiative.

The center aims to transform cancer care in the province by providing advanced and affordable treatment. It symbolizes hope and innovation, embodying a commitment to accessible world-class healthcare. The facility, equipped with departments including Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Theranostics, also integrates research and education, positioning it as one of the country’s most comprehensive cancer institutions.

Mr. Shah paid tribute to Dr. Saeed Quraishy and his team for their efforts in realizing this vision. He urged collaboration among stakeholders to ensure a healthier future for Sindh. The establishment of the cancer center, following the 2021 launch of Pakistan’s first public sector Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Unit, marks a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare landscape.
