Sindh Chief Minister Tackles Fertilizer Shortage with Firm Directives to Provincial Commissioners

Karachi, Addressing the pressing issue of fertilizer shortage in Sindh, Chief Minister Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir has taken a proactive approach by writing to the commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province. In his letter, he emphasized the need for transparent distribution of fertilizer and the importance of combating corruption and hoarding within the distribution process.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the Chief Minister has instructed all provincial commissioners to ensure the fair and transparent distribution of fertilizers. He has called for quick action against any officials found involved in corrupt practices. His letter seeks explanations from the commissioners on why there are delays in the fair distribution of fertilizers across the province.

The Chief Minister stressed the necessity of stringent action against the hoarding of fertilizers, underscoring the need for effective monitoring and regulation to prevent such practices. He directed that immediate steps be taken to halt hoarding and black marketing of fertilizers throughout Sindh.

In his directive, he ordered that strict action should be taken against dealers and shopkeepers involved in hoarding or black marketing of fertilizers. Furthermore, he instructed that detailed reports of fertilizer stocks at various dealerships and shops be compiled.

To further support farmers, the Chief Minister ordered the establishment of “Farmer Support Centers” in the offices of the Chief Minister and all Deputy Commissioners. These centers will have designated focal persons (ADC-I/II) to address farmers’ issues. He also called for the establishment and monitoring of focal persons related to the Agriculture Department in all taluks to ensure the regular announcement and monitoring of fertilizer availability and official prices at district and taluk levels.

The Chief Minister’s letter also includes instructions for providing farmers with avenues to file complaints against offending shops or dealers. He has directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to submit daily reports on their progress in addressing the fertilizer shortage. These reports are to be sent promptly to the Chief Minister’s House Secretariat.
