Sindh Chief Minister Plans Overhaul of Labor Laws to Boost Efficiency and Fairness

Karachi, In an effort to streamline and modernize labor regulations, the Sindh government has announced a comprehensive revision of existing labor laws, aimed at simplifying and enhancing the regulatory framework in consultation with various stakeholders.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the revision will involve the codification and rationalization of 21 existing laws concerning occupational health, industrial relations, and employment. This initiative, supported by technical assistance from the International Labor Organization (ILO), seeks to address inconsistencies and modernize labor law enforcement. The proposed Sindh Labor Code will consolidate disparate regulations into a unified framework, making it easier for businesses and workers to navigate and comply with the law. This effort is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is expected to foster a more equitable economic environment across sectors.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized the collaborative nature of this initiative during his discussions with a six-member ILO delegation led by Country Director Mr. Geir Tonsto. The new draft, which aims to be more than just a consolidation of existing statutes, will involve significant rewrites to ensure clarity, consistency, and fairness in labor practices. The changes are also expected to eliminate outdated provisions and address contemporary labor issues more effectively.
